about

From the northern California coast comes a fresh, new sound: 24-year-old troubadour Berel Alexander. With an acoustic vibe and a vintage feel, the Berel Alexander Ensemble touches on the past without being the past. Under the charismatic leadership of Bandleader/Singer/Songwriter Berel Alexander, the Ensemble plays expertly crafted originals plus inspired renditions of classic songs.

Combining strings, horns, keys, rhythm and voices, the Ensemble offers a captivating musical experience that reaches across continents and generations. Alexander's fluid, expressive singing style is the golden thread that ties it all together. Berel Alexander is a musical storyteller who takes us to a place of dreams and self-discovery. Mature, powerful themes are delivered with boyish charm.

Alexander reflects, ""When I was nine years old I saw Ray Charles perform live and that night I knew my life would be all about making music.”

With warmth and sophistication, the Ensemble offers an elegant show for private events and lounges, or builds a big band sound for clubs and festivals.

Quotes:

“Berel’s songs are as sweet and smooth as the perfect milkshake with a splash of Red Bull.”
~ Wavy-Gravy, 1960s counter-culture legend

“Berel’s songs come at you with the subtly of a wink and a kiss. He’s a major talent and is a delight to listen to. I’m hooked!” ~ Jack Gabriel, former music critic, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

"This music reaches what I call the rainbow crowd: all generations, all cultures. He rocks the house." ~ Leib Ostrow, Earthbeat! Records

“The crowd went wild when Alexander announced, “I saw Ray Charles in Arcata when I was nine years old,” then launched into a no-holds-barred version of “Unchain My Heart.” Alexander also paid tribute to Stevie Wonder with pop classic “‘Master Blaster,” and seemed to be channeling King of Soul James Brown in an unforgettable “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag.””
~ Eureka Times-Standard, Dec/09

“My favorite live show of all time!” ~ Martin Nicolas/EntertainMein
